Our products are the result of formulations that provide a more efficient biological process in molecular biology, ecology and include the cleaning up of polluted waters and contaminated lands. By working with our labs and engineers we provide cost-effective bioremediation strategies to immobilize contaminants for cleanup.
The underlying principle for bioremediation is that microorganisms, (mainly bacteria) can be used to destroy hazardous contaminants and/or transform them into less harmful forms. Bioremediation refers to a controlled or spontaneous biological catalysis and degradation process of the environmental pollutant so as to reduce or and/or eliminate the environmental pollutant. Microorganisms are capable of performing almost any detoxification reaction. Site testing to measure physicochemical characteristics in situ and field assessments help reduce the costs associated with remediation. We believe getting the most characterization data helps reduce the chance for overdesign. Bioremediation is an especially attractive alternative because it is potentially less costly than conventional cleanup methods, it allows you to reaching your cleanup goals more quickly, and it results in less transfer of contaminants to other media.
Oil pollution in water comes from many sources such as the discharge of industrial, agricultural, transportation and domestic sewage, oil leakage, the settlement of petroleum hydrocarbon compounds that escape into the atmosphere, and natural oil spills on the sea floor. There are many kinds of industrial wastewater that contains oil pollutants, which include refinery sewage, petroleum exploration and development wastewater, ballast water. The two main vehicles of petroleum pollution can be divided into sudden and chronic input. The sudden includes cruise vessel accident, offshore petroleum exploration leak, and/or blowout incident.
Chronic includes petroleum sewage discharged by the ship, oil-field wastewater, industrial wastewater discharge, oily exhaust gas sedimentation to name a few. (Notwithstanding, the marine transportation and handling process of petroleum may cause an oil spill accident.) The principle method for petroleum polluted water includes the physical method, the chemical method and the biological method. Currently, it’s very common to use the physical and chemical methods. The physical method utilizes oil containment booms, oil slicks recovery ships, blocking the contaminated area portable oil reservoirs, oil trawling, and additional equipment to block the oil in the water, and mechanical equipment to collecting petroleum hydrocarbons for recycling.
Understanding that the physical methods are simple and have little secondary pollution to the environment, they are costly. The physical methods mainly deal with large-scale, oil spill accidents on the sea surface, and it is not very effective in dealing with the petroleum hydrocarbons with relatively low density, low viscosity, and fast diffusion speeds. Chemical methods mainly use chemical agents like dispersants and detergents to disperse slicks into smaller oil droplets, to dissolve or settle into water bodies. (Chemical reagents used in this method can cause secondary pollution to the environment.)
